Case studies on wiki use within Enterprises for project communication (Ross Mayfield)
From MapbenderWiki
Ross Mayfield from the company socialtext spoke to a hushed audience about how Wiki changes thinking in enterprise environments. If Ward Cunningham changed the way of programming and Jimmy Wales changed the way encyclopedias come to life, then Ross might be about to change how enterprises communicate.
Unfortunately there is no online presentation available yet. We'll try to get it though...!

An Abstract Abstract
Ross talked about the use of Wiki style technology in enterprise dimension. Most problems caused in project and day to day work are deviations from standard processes. These problems are most often discussed via email, certainly one of the most important communication media of the digital age but atributed with a host of inherent (technolgical) problems. Wiki-style communication is different and the solution for a great many problems caused by email technolgy. The following table shows some of the differences in communication and information dissemination:
| Wiki style | |
| pushed by sender | pulled by recipient |
| highly redundant | concentrated optimized |
| static once delivered | dynamic information |
| tedious to track the history | full history |
| no diff regarding opinions | full diff and history |
Communication changes from a chaotic network of individually pushed emails to an organized information hub where information can be pulled from.

Ross showed a very, very cool diagram showing rings of people involved at different levels of communication and publishing and put that into context with most suitable technology.
We will try to get into contact with Ross to get his presentation and diagram to further this page.
