FOSSGIS 2006
The FOSSGIS 2006 is the Wiki of the German language sibling to last year's OSG 05 and this year's FOSS4G 2006 conference.
The FOSSGIS 2006 is explicitly not trying to stand in the way as an alternative to the FOSS4G conference. The FOSS4G 2006 (http://www.foss4g2006.org/) is the official meeting of the tribes! Last year the German speaking user community insisted on having a local user meeting, so this is why there is another conference with a similar name.
FOSSGIS could be a good name for the Foundation
Prof. Dr. Greve (Geographic Department of the University of Bonn) renamed the well known acronym GIS into Geograpical Information Sciences. This rings good and keeps the old acronym.
To be more technical and precise we cousl sa 'Geospatial' in stead of 'Geographical' and instead of Sciences we could say Society which very much resembles the emerging structure that is currently known as the Foundation. Domains are registered and could be donated to the Foundation.

Die FOSSGIS 2006 ist das Wiki für die deutschsprachige Schwester der alten UMN MapServer und der neuen FOSS4G 2006 Konferenz.
Die FOSSGIS 2006 versucht eindeutig nicht als Alternative der FOSS4G Konferenz im Weg zu stehen. Die FOSS4G 2006 (http://www.foss4g2006.org/) ist das offizielle Treffen aller Zweige! Letztes Jahr bestand die deutschprachige Anwendergemeinschaft darauf ein lokales Anwendertreffen abzuhalten, was der Grund dafür ist, dass noch eine Konferenz mit einem ähnlichen Namen abgehalten wird.
FOSSGIS könnte ein guter Name für die Foundation sein
Prof. Dr. Greve (Geographisches Institut der Universität Bonn) hat das bekannte Akronym GIS umbenannt in Geograpical Information Sciences (Geographische Informations-Wissenschaften). Das hört sich gut an und das alte Akronym bleibt erhalten.
Anstelle von Sciences (Wissenschaften) könnte man auch Society (Gesellschaft) sagen, was der entstehenden Struktur der momentan sogenannten die Foundation sehr entspricht. Statt 'Geographical' könnte ebenfalll erweiternd 'Geospatial' verwendet weden.
Domains wurden bereits registriert und könnten an die die Foundation gestiftet werden.
