(inter)National Regulations
Please observe that although this text is written in English language there are quite a few other legislations outside of the USofA.
In the German Urheberrecht (German Copyright Act) for example the originator (author) and his or her work cannot be separated from each other. Never ever, it is simply not possible. The originator can only sell the exploitation right to another party who then can exert patent utilization, enforce intellectual property rights, etc. This approach is very common throughout the European context.
Further Development
As this project is international in scope and contribution this section will have to be extended.
Germany
For the German context the Mapbender Project Administrator has adopted VGWort and their legal definitions. There is a good introduction at the web site VGWort Portrait (German only) for an introduction.
