Markus Neteler was honored with Sol Katz GFOSS Award 2006

The Mapbender Project congratulates Markus Neteler, who was given the Sol Katz GFOSS Award for 2006 during the closing plenary of the FOSS4G 2006 conference. Markus is the leader of the GRASS GIS project, and has played a pivotal role in the revitalization of the project and it's community.

Markus is also a founding member and director of OSGeo, and has been active in building the broader FOSS4G community for many years. His continuous support for Free Software projects and cautious lead of communities in the geospatial realm have made him a key person for the growing international community.

Markus Neteler erhält den Sol Katz Award GFOSS Preis 2006

Das Mapbender Projekt gratuliert Markus Neteler sehr herzlich zur Verleihung des Sol Katz Awards im Rahmen der Konferenz FOSS4G 2006 in Lausanne am 15. September 2006. Markus Neteler erhält diesen Preis für seine vielfältigen Leistungen und umsichtiger Führung in Free Software Projekten aus dem Bereich der Geoinformatik. Er ist vor allem für die Koordinierung und Weiterentwicklung des Freien GIS GRASS verantwortlich und hat die Entwicklung seit über 10 Jahren kontinuierlich vorangetrieben und GRASS zu einem der großen Projekte im Bereich der Freien Geoinformatik gemacht.

Begonnen hat die Entwicklung an der Universität Hannover und wurde später am ITC in Trento weitergeführt. Aktuell ist neben der Betreuung von GRASS das Thema Freie Geodaten ein Arbeitsschwerpunkt von Markus Neteler. In seiner Funktion als Vorstandmitglied der Open Source Geospatial Foundation vertritt er Europäische Standpunkte und bereichert die junge Organisation durch unermüdlichen Einsatz. Herzlichen Dank!
