Talk:Autodesk will not assert any patents against MSF users

Comment
I copied an email that Gary Lang sent to the MSF Discuss mailing list to this Wiki to make sure that it is stored physically on a separate system. Just simple archiving in a Wiki, no big deal. Technically this seems to have worked since someone from the MSF Discuss Mailing List (whom I do not know personally) found this page by whatever means and commented on it. From my personal point of view regarding governance this is good.
I did not intend to imply that Autodesk would hold any rights on UMN MapServer code. As far as I can tell this is not the case.
Communication processes
Most discussion regarding the Foundation currently happens via mailing lists. Serveral of them. This makes orientation hard, issues get repeated and misunderstood, people only get a fraction of the diescusion. Tyler Mitchell has recognized this and done a great job at http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/community/foundation/background/foundationtasks/ bringing together many issues. He can edit it online as it is a CMS. This web site is exactly what the Foundation will need as soon as it exists. But now that [the Foundation] is in the process of emerging the structure of the CMS is too unflexibel. It cannot be edited as easily as hitting the <reply> button in the mail client. The technical intermediary between a mailing list and a website is a Wiki. This would probably be the best place to consolidate what has alread been disucced around the foundation of the Foundation.
What is this Wiki
This Wiki is probably not the place to do this as it is just one tiny project between many others. Technically it ranges at the client end of the emerging Open Surce SDI Stack stack and therefore is already full of references to other projects. I would personally very much favor an open Wiki operated on http://www.mapserverfoundation.org for the discussion. To fight spam issues it might be necessary to have a named account to edit it but no more. The mailing list in my eyes is not suitable for the job of consolidating the Foundation basics.
